Devotionals (guides for Christian prayer
and practice)
Devotions for Lent: Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 6th and continues until Easter Sunday on March 23rd. The devotions are a series of essays, meditations,
prayers, and scripture readings for the period preceding Easter.
Below are some of our favorite online resources (links will
open a new window)
For the spirit
pray-as-you-go
An online prayer resource that is recorded and podcast
in Britain by Jesuits. You can access the daily 10 minute music/scripture/prayer
devotionals on the Web site or subscribe to the podcast (if you
have a digital audio player, like an iPod) for a helpful,
reverent, daily prayer aid. Helps are provided on the
site for using the podcasts.
Sacred Space
A beautiful and helpful daily online prayer site, produced by
the Irish Jesuits. From their introduction: "It
might seem strange to pray at your computer, in front of a screen,
especially if there are other people around you, or distracting
noises. But God is everywhere, all around us, constantly reaching
out to us, even in the most unlikely situations. When we know
this, and with a bit of practice, we can pray anywhere ..."
Vineyard Music Group
Great resource for Vineyard Music for sale, and other resources
(video, essays) for musicians, songwriters, and worship leaders
(and the rest of us simple worshippers).
For the mind
BibleGateway.com
We really think the Bible is about the best resource around.
biblegateway.com is a good place to sample some of the many translations
of the scriptures, or just
do a search on
a term
or topic. This site is a good all-around resource
for reading, listening to, studying, and
searching the
Scriptures
in a great
variety
of
languages and styles.
The site has Bible
study tools, commentaries,
and a good search utility
(which you can sample below) ....
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia at Blue Letter Bible
This is an old, great, classic encyclopedia of the Bible. It has since been updated considerably, and we have a couple copies in the church office of the newer editions, but this one is comprehensive, in the public domain, on the Web, and free! It is an excellent resource, edited by James Orr, one of the more influential early evangelical theologians. Look up any Biblically significant word here.
Vineyard Bible
Institute
The Vineyard's distance-learning style Bible education. Register
online and study alone or with others, VBI offers 'intermediate'-level
Biblical studies and ministry training for anyone interested.
Excellent foundational training for anyone interested in Vineyard
leadership, or simply interested in deepening their understanding
of Vineyard values.
Vineyard Leadership
Institute
VLI is the Vineyard's ministry training program. A
rigorous, 2-year program integrates hands-on training, ministry
experience, spiritual formation, and academic understanding to
prepare emerging leaders for service.
For the world (... etc)
Vineyard USA
The Web site
for the national community of churches of which we are a part.
A good resource for locating Vineyard churches around the country,
reading
up
on
Vineyard news
and current views, and learning about the Vineyard's goals.
Off The Map
Off The Map is a great site for people who find evangelism a
burden or a bummer. With and endless supply of great stories,
examples, and media resources, the site is the perfect place
to get a new idea of how sharing the story of Jesus can be easy,
simple, and a blessing for you, not just the person you are talking
to. The site also has some surprises: be sure to check out
the Lost
Interviews, where non-Chirstians are interviewed about their
views on the church.
kingdomrain.net
An excellent resource for Vineyard thinking on a variety of
subjects (worship, service, and Kingdom life, for example).
The works of John Wimber and of other Vineyard greats (past
and present) are available for reading and listening. The site's
primary contributor is Don Williams, one of the Vineyard's
great thinkers. His responses to current events and reviews
of books are be very helpful.
