The Mission of the Peninsula Vineyard—Mission Summary
The mission of the Peninsula Vineyard is the result of months
of prayer and discussion throughout the church. It has grown out
of our vision statement (to be a worshipping, healing, equipping
and expanding community), particularly addressing the fourth element
of this vision, our expanding community. For this season in the
life of our church, we believe God is calling us to focus our attention,
efforts, prayers, and resources on this mission:
Extending the transforming love of Jesus to our
world.
We have received so much from God: love, faith,
power, healing and much more. We cannot keep this good news to
ourselves! By the
power of the Holy Spirit, we will extend this good news to the
people around us. We will reach out with the love and truth of
Jesus. We will ask God to show us how he is at work in the people
around us and respond to the Holy Spirit’s promptings to
join in this work. In faith, we allow Jesus to stretch us in ways
that may feel unnatural and uncomfortable. We are willing to risk
because we wholeheartedly believe in the power of the gospel to
change lives.
What do we have to offer the people around us? The
transforming love of Jesus! Jesus’ love
motivates us. His love draws us into an intimate relationship with
God, gives us
our true identity,
and plants seed of compassion in our heart. Because Jesus has loved
us so deeply, we are able to love the people around us. We can
engage others in a spirit of gentleness and conviction, free from
fear and self-consciousness. We are filled up with God’s
love and poured out as his servants (Philippians 2). We are continually
being transformed into Jesus’ likeness through confession
and repentance. We wait and pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal
how Jesus is already transforming the world and joyfully join with
him. We believe that purpose and joy come from aligning ourselves
with God and with the things he is doing in and around us.
God has
called us to be agents of his love in our world. From the moment
we exit through our front doors in the morning, we interact
with people whom God loves, everywhere we go, all day long. They
are on both sides of the counter at our favorite coffee shops.
They sit on the other side of the cubical wall. We meet them
in the park, on the playground and in the shopping malls. Some
are
wealthy, socially graceful and beautiful. Some are marginalized,
awkward and unlovely. We will seek to bless and delight in those
who are like us and those who are not like us. We believe that
God is drawing people to himself all around the world. We will
send and support those who are called to live, work, and plant
churches here and in other parts of the world. We hope and pray
that many will come to life and faith in Jesus Christ through
the ministry of the Peninsula Vineyard.
