The Mission of the Peninsula Vineyard—10 Things You Can
Do
10 Things You Can Do Right
Now
(to live the mission!)
1. Pray! Ask God how you can be a part of doing the mission.
Ask God about your family, friends and community, how you might
extend
the transforming love of Jesus to them. Be ready to pray. Be
ready to tell your story. Be ready to help.
2. Commit to learning about the needs around you. Go where you
will see need. It may be outside your front door, in another
neighborhood
or city, or even
another country.
Pray for an
easy way to help. Visit Vineyard's Reaching Out Prayer group
(check bulletin / contact office for
details).
3. Contact the ACTS ministry and learn about the work our
church is already doing and investing in, and learn how
to get involved.
Visit the ACTS page for details.
4. Keep some food, coupons, vouchers, etc. in your car
and hand them out to the people you encounter throughout
the
day who have
a need. Be willing to pray for people too. (Many restaurants
and fast-food places sell vouchers and gift certificates.)
5. Add extra nutritional staples to your shopping list
and make a weekly donation to a local agency serving
the poor
(Urban Ministries
Palo Alto; Bread of Life, East Palo Alto; Ecumenical
Hunger Program).
6. Think about the good that God has done for you this week.
Ask God to give you an opportunity to share one good
thing
he has
done with
a friend
or a coworker over coffee.
7. Offer baby-sitting to a busy parent outside the church.
8. Clean out your house and closets and donate the
quality functional things you don't use or don't
need to local
service agencies.
And, while you are at it, consider donating gift
cards to those agencies,
so individuals can get needed clothes and supplies.
(Target, Payless, Costco, etc.)
9. Help a ministry or missionary with your money
and your prayers and learn all you can about
the work and
the culture
you are
supporting.
10. Mentor or tutor a young person. You don't
need to be a brain surgeon, just be willing
to come
alongside and
support someone
who could use a friend.
